Thursday 24 September

Finally got to drop my car into the panel beaters this morning. It was big of them to fit me in. They said it should be ready in a week. A week. OK, that’s next Thursday. Caught an Uber into work. I’m going to try cycling to work for the next few days. Maybe it’ll be good for me. I wonder where my bike is.

OK, it’s after 10 pm now. Earlier, I found my bike leaning against the wall behind what I call my shed. It’s a bit rusty, and of course the tyres were flat. Walked it up to the local garage, pumped up the front tyre, great, started on the back one when, bang! Didn’t know what to do so I rang Donna, she comes in handy occasionally, and she interrupted her busy life to come and get me. We somehow managed to get the back wheel off to fit it into her car, hands now covered in grease and fingers sore from where I kept pinching them, took it to the local bike shop, which fortunately opens late on Thursdays, and a young kid there, about six years old, fitted a new tyre for me. Back to the garage, went to retrieve my bike, only to find I’d forgotten the combination of the bike lock. Had it written down at home, so back in Donna’s car, rooted around for about half an hour until I found what I was pretty sure was the combination, back to the garage, put the wheel on, yay it works, and trundled the stupid bike home in the dark.
