Friday 25 September

I can’t believe how impatient drivers are with bike riders. I had to ride to work mostly on the road, as the shared cycle and walking path had so many people straggling all over it, getting in the way, it was really inconvenient. I think most of them must have been hearing impaired, as my bell meant nothing to them at all. I thought they might at least hear the squeaking. Also, there are some real yobs out there who think it’s so funny to yell at girls on bikes. They’re too thick to know that it isn’t possible to pedal, balance, steer and take them out all at the same time.

By the time I got to work I’d stopped wobbling so much, but I was sweating profusely and was red as a beetroot. Maybe I should’ve lived today like it was my last, as I think it nearly was a few times. To make matters worse, as I was trying to manoeuvre my bike into the lift, Agnes and Breadstick turned up, full of beans, and yelled at me to hold the lift door, which I did by stretching one leg backwards so the doors couldn’t shut.

New rule: don’t wear a short skirt when cycling to work.

I finally struggled out at my floor and wheeled my bike into my office, much to everyone’s amusement, had a quick clean up in the bathroom, and then shut my door and tried to avoid everyone for the rest of the day.

Got an Uber home. I need to be more organised.
