Monday 19 October

Had a Susan session this morning. She said it’s going to be our last one, and then she’s cutting me loose. She said it’s now up to me to choose the route I want to follow. So, it’s either the Susan route or the Liz/Donna route. Looking at the options, it’s a pretty simple decision to make, really. Although I’ll have to give up a lot of those excuses I’ve been so comfortable with for so long.

Today was all about keeping in shape. The session was all the bleeding obvious, really, but that’s not to say I do what the bleeding obvious is. I think Shakespeare had something to say about that, something about poor men’s cottages and princes’ palaces. I really shouldn’t even have to write this down, but here it is, in case I need to remind myself later.

Cut down the fats, sugars and processed foods. Maintain a healthy weight for my height and build. Don’t smoke. Don’t drink to excess (i.e. more than other people who drink more than me). Don’t get sunburnt. Get enough sleep. Do twenty to forty minutes of exercise to the point where I sweat, I puff, and my heart rate increases, 3 or 4 times per week. (I’ve had that one covered for the past few weeks, even with Wednesday nights dropping off. Now I feel guilty for not cycling in today.) See my doctor sooner rather than later if I suspect a health problem. Get regular checks, appropriate to my age, gender and family history, for breast, cervical or prostate (unlikely) cancer, skin cancer, bowel cancer, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, eye disease and diabetes. And don’t base my health decisions on the anecdotal evidence of some nitwit, who didn’t graduate from high school, sitting in his or her lounge chair writing a blog because he’s ‘researched’ on the internet what other nitwits like him or her are saying.

I think Susan has lost interest now that Agnes has left.

Stuart was back at work today. What a pleasure. He’s so proud of himself, getting over COVID as he did. He’s claiming he’s a survivor. He was annoyed, though, when he found out that Kylie is off with COVID for seven days.
