Wednesday 19 August

Hard to get out of bed this morning. Stiff and sore, especially my neck and back.

We had a bomb evacuation drill at work today. Fireman Fred brought along a pretend bomb, which he hid somewhere before he told us we had to evacuate. It definitely was a pretend bomb, as it had the words, ‘This is a fake bomb’ written on the side of it. I hope the terrorists don’t catch on to that idea.

Anyway, after we’d all evacuated to a safe place, FF asked for a volunteer who was familiar with the lie of the land to go back into the office to see if they could find the bomb, so the bomb squad would know where it was when they arrived. Are you kidding me? Here we all are, outside, safe and sound, and he wants someone to go back in, rather than wait for the bomb squad to arrive with their protective gear, expertise, sniffer dogs, robots and whatever else they have. FF insisted that was the authorised procedure. Well, I say whoever authorised that procedure can go back in and see if they can find the bomb.

After it was all over and FF had left the building, I noticed the fake bomb (the one with, ‘This is a fake bomb’ written on the side of it) had been left on one of the desks in the common area. I rang FF to tell him that he’d forgotten to take his bomb with him, and he said no problem, he would pick it up tomorrow. Shouldn’t we all evacuate or something? I guess it wasn’t suspicious, what with the writing on it and everything.
